Behind the Scenes: M*A*S*H

Need to take a break to finish up a project. But wanted to quickly share another find from my Biggest Loser Resort adventure.

One of the group hikes led to the site where the TV series M*A*S*H was filmed. (Always a favorite at my house.)

This is what is left of the fictional 4077th Army surgical unit in the Korean War. In reality, part of Southern California’s Malibu Creek State Park. The set was demolished by a brush fire that erupted during the show’s final episode.

This signpost is a replica. The original is in the Smithsonian.

It all got me thinking about Harry Morgan, who played gruff softy Col. Potter. Morgan, a steady presence in acting for 70 years, died recently.

Sorry to see him go. But nice to see Hawkeye Pierce — Alan Alda — show up again on 30 Rock as Alec Baldwin’s dad in need of a kidney. The Kidney Now! ep was one of the show’s best.

  1. One of my favorite shows. I even played the character of Trapper John McIntyre in our high school play (based on the film). Thought I knew everything about the show but didn’t know about the brush fire…interesting. Thanks for posting.

As always, you write things that intrigue and or amuse….this brings back memories for many people.

Incredible and I thought it was set in Korea oh Hollywood fooled us again
